Design Tip: White Brick

Design Tips | March 20, 2017

We love the white brick trend that has been circling the design world for some time now. We have started to incorporate it in a lot more of our projects. We love how a white brick wall can be bright but also add texture and a natural feel to a space.

There are many ways to achieve this look. We will discuss the options that we have used on some of our projects that may be helpful for you in your upcoming design decisions.

In the Lehi Remodel, our contractor suggested a brick veneer product to save on cost. Brick veneer is set just like a regular brick with grout. We knew we were going to paint the brick so the color didn’t matter. It mattered more what the shape and texture of the brick looked like.

The problem we found was some of the brick veneer choices looked a little too perfect and smooth making them look fake. We went with one that still had some roughness along the edges to let it look more like real brick and still provide some texture through the paint.

In our Modern Farm House, we just used old regular bricks. The client knew all along she wanted a white brick home so to save on costs she just picked a cheap discontinued brick and painted it.

We used the same brick from the exterior on the inside fireplace. It is important to note that brick is very porous and will take multiple coats of paint.

Our Centerville Residence project was a remodel. The fireplace had existing yellow brick that we decided to paint white to update the space and give it a fresh look.

We have also recently found a brick veneer option that is already white, this way you won’t have to paint anything at all.

Whichever brick choice you make, we are sure you will love it in your home 🙂
