Floating Shelf Round-up

Product Round-up | July 22, 2019

We love to add floating shelves in kitchens to help break up the cabinetry and make the space feel more open without losing storage space. Open shelving also creates the perfect spot for styling favorite artwork and accessories to add character to a space.

For the shelving in our One Room Challenge project, we went with a warm wood to contrast against the white cabinetry. Placing them by the window helps keep the area around the sink light and bright.

Since the lower and upper cabinets in our Traverse Mountain Modern project were already contrasting, we went with white open shelves to keep the space cohesive. Keeping the upper shelving and cabinets the same color keeps the space from being too busy and hard on the eyes.

Another area we like to add open shelving is above a desk nook in a kitchen. For our Mapleton New Build project, all the cabinets were the same warm gray, so we went with open shelving to break up the cabinetry which helps keep the space from feeling too heavy. In addition to that, using warm wood shelves that stand out against the softer color of the cabinets added some contrast to the space to help keep it interesting.

Another place we’ve used open shelving is in the Morgan Farmhouse master bathroom. Their bathroom is open and spacious and having the floating shelves near the bathtub gives the owners the flexibility to have things they would need within arms reach.

We’ve rounded up some awesome floating shelves for you. Check out the links above and below to shop. We’ve also included some brackets to help you hang them. These are great if you want to be able to control the exact spacing between the brackets. If you already have floating shelves or are going to be installing some, make sure to tag us on Instagram because we’d love to see them!
